Top Five Reasons to Stay at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
Five Compelling Reasons to Stay at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort
When it comes to Deluxe Disney Resorts in the Epcot and Hollywood Studios area of Walt Disney World, you have three options from which to choose: Disney’s Boardwalk Inn, Disney’s Beach Club Resort and Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.
While all three properties are excellent choices for a luxury Disney vacation, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort has some great things going for it that may tip the scales in its favour.
Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is the sister hotel to Disney’s Beach Club Resort (they are actually one long continuous structure) and it was designed to reflect the feel of a New England yacht club. The lobby features oak floors, antique chandeliers, rich millwork and brass fixtures that combine to inspire memories of a New England summer day at the Club.
If the description of the resort alone is not enough to convince you, here are five great reasons why you should stay at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.
1. Great Location
Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is ideally located in a very desirable part of Walt Disney World that offers easy access to two Disney theme parks and the popular Disney Boardwalk area.
From Disney’s Yacht Club Resort, you can walk to the Epcot World Showcase entrance in approximately 15 minutes. You can also catch a Friendship Boat from the Yacht Club dock and take a 15-minute boat ride to Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Finally, Disney’s Boardwalk area is right across Crescent Lake and you can also walk there in about 10 minutes. This is a great leisurely stroll along the beaches and shoreline of the lake area. With all of these great areas virtually on your doorstep, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is in an ideal position if you want to stay in this part of Walt Disney World.
2. Incredible Pool: Stormalong Bay
As a guest of Disney’s Yacht Club Resort you have access to one of the most popular resort pools in all of Walt Disney World. Stormalong Bay (which is shared with Disney’s Beach Club Resort next door) is a pool lover’s paradise and is the only Walt Disney World resort pool that requires wristband access for its guests. Anybody who loves pools wants to swim at Stormalong Bay, but only those staying at Disney’s Yacht Club Resort or Disney’s Beach Club Resort are allowed to use the pool.
Stormalong Bay is a two-and-a-half-acre water recreation area that verges on water park status. One of its main features is an impressive life-size shipwreck with an awesome water slide for some pretty good thrills (there’s a smaller water slide as well, which is perfect for little ones). You can also snorkel in a sandy lagoon and you can take a leisurely walk, swim or float on a tube around the many winding areas of a lazy river. Hurricane Hanna’s is a quick service restaurant located next to the pool (outside of the wristband area) and there are plenty of great spots to lounge and relax poolside if that is what you most want to do. Your biggest problem here may be getting the kids out of the pool to go to the parks.
3. Relaxing Ambiance
One of the best features of Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is its ambiance. A lot of people are confused about whether to choose Disney’s Beach Club Resort or Disney’s Yacht Club Resort when it comes to deciding between these two very similar (and connected) hotels. While they are similar in many ways, there are a few key differences that lead me to recommend the Yacht Club over the Beach Club most of the time. One of these differences is the ambiance.
Disney’s Yacht Club Resort features a nautical theme versus the Beach Club’s seaside beach theme. The Yacht Club is more subdued in its decor and has a higher-end feel to it. As a result of this, Disney’s Yacht Club tends to be a quieter and more relaxing place compared to the Beach Club next door. I often tell people to start in the lobby of the Yacht Club and walk all the way down — through the hallways — to the Beach Club lobby. As you make your way along you will notice the activity and noise levels increasing along the way.
There’s certainly nothing wrong with the Beach Club, but there are usually more kids running around and the decibel levels are higher as a result. Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is still very kid friendly, but it is a little more refined and less chaotic than the Beach Club and for this reason I often recommend it for those who want a more calm environment.
One point to note is that the Yacht Club has an adjoining conference center, so you may see conference attendees with name badges milling about from time to time.
4. Preferred Club Level Concierge Area
If you are a Club Level Concierge guest, then Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is a great choice in this part of Walt Disney World. When compared to the Beach Club next door, all the rooms in the Yacht Club’s Regatta Club (Club Level Concierge) have balconies. The same is not true at Disney’s Beach Club Resort (where you may or may not get a balcony in your Club Level Concierge room).
In addition, the Cast Members at the Regatta Club are some of the best I have encountered at any Club Level Concierge area at Walt Disney World Resort. So if you are looking for Club Level Concierge accommodations in the Epcot and Hollywood Studios neighborhood, Disney’s Yacht Club Resort is an excellent choice to make.
5. Beaches & Cream on Your Doorstep
You don’t have to stay at the Yacht Club or Beach Club to visit this legendary Disney ice cream parlor, but it’s a whole lot more fun to have the Beaches & Cream Soda Shop right on your doorstep as a guest of Disney’s Yacht Club Resort.
Beaches & Cream is well known for its excellent offering of ice cream Sundays and the popular (and giant) Kitchen Sink (bring some friends for this one). It’s not just ice cream though; they also serve some pretty good sandwiches, burgers, salads, grilled cheese, hot dogs, chili and more.
